THINK FOOD

There is one thing more exasperating than a wife who can cook and won't, and that's a wife who can't cook and will.

Excellent TV show, with Maeve O'Meara a very capable presenter visiting chefs in their own kitchens, getting the tips on cooking different cuisines from people who practise other culinary cultures while living in our Austrlian cities and suburbs.

O'Meara is friends with many of the chefs and cooks, and you can tell - everything is very natural and unrehearsed, and the resulting recipes look divine. This show will appeal to foodies looking for something new to try at home or rank amateurs who just like watching other people cook amazing dishes. Lots of fun!

Here's the Food Safari Website: http://www21.sbs.com.au/foodsafari/index.php

The website rocks, it's got all the recipes as they go along each week and some of them even include the video online. Check it out!

Food Safari is fantastic! Last week's show was on Malaysian cooking, this week it's about Portuguese cooking - should be very cool.

There's also a competition running alongside the show - at the end of each episode they aska question regarding one of the ingredients in one of the recipes and you can SMS your anser in for the chance to win a great food holiday over in Vietnam.

I've been texting like mad - figure the odds have gotta be a bit better than Tatslotto.

Trav

PS - I wonder if it will come out on DVD? It'd be a good one to have on hand I reckon.

Gah! I missed the Indian one last week, meant to tape it but plum forgot. Greek this week, that'll be a good one I reckon, plenty of traditional Greek families for Maeve to choose from in Melbourne Wink

I hope it comes out on dvd too, I'll see if I can search up an approximate time frame...

You can buy individual episodes on DVD from these guys in the meantime:

http://www.enhancetv.com.au/shop/product.php?productid=103723&cat=332&page=3

Not a cheap way to do it though - AUD21.95 an episode.

I've a feeling that they are available elsewhere as well - there is an ad after the show that advertises it from another source. Volcom? Vorcom? Something like that.

I contacted Maeve, she seems a friendly and really authentic person, I like her. I must admit I was a little celeb-shy, all nervous and cheeks just a little red...

Anyway, they're available through Marcom (you were close Trav).

"I've just called them and they will have the full set of 13 episodes available from 31st Jan at $119 inc GST." - Maeve O'Meara

Maeve's been in the business for a while - I've got a couple of books called "The SBS Guide to Ethnic Eating" (one for Melbourne and one for Sydney) that she co-edited, and that was way back in the early nineties.

I like her bio from back then - "Maeve O'Meara has worked as a journalist of the Sydney Morning Herald, the Sun Herald, ABC Television, Channel Nine and SBS, where she is currently a reporter and producer for Dateline. Having grown up in a meat-and-three-vegetables family, Maeve has discovered paella, pirozhki and polenta. She loves travel and dining out, and very occasionally cooks at home".

Having come from a meat-and-three vegies family myself, I know what it's like to discover that there's an entire world of food out there to explore!
