Just read this in a local newspaper called The Independent...

Town bares its mussels for festival

By Andrew Mathieson

Portarlington wants to muscle in on the minds of thousands of people expected to attend an inaugural festival tomorrow. The Portarlington Mussel Festival will showcase more than, well, just mussels. Port Art Network organisers are hoping the town's inaugural event tomorrow will promote art, culture and local produce, including its booming wine and olive oil industries. But most importantly to put Portarlington on the holiday destination map.

"It's an opportunity for everybody to participate for free and showcase Portarlington and what the town has got to offer, which is huge for a small town," Port Arts member Jenny Macauley said.

"It has really brought Portarlington together, wheras before dfferent businesses were doing their own thing - and this was one of our main aims."

The free and non-profit mussel festival will also include an afternoon concert and a shuttle bus to a local winery. Ms Macauley is expecting between 5000 and 10,000 people to attend the festival, targeting many visitors from Melbourne including both summer campers and daytrippers.
